Chris Jordan Artist Critique

One of the images I was most impressed is this image of the upper body of a woman. From the distance the image reads of beauty and grace, it reminded me of an impressionist painting rather than of a photographs However, when the viewer moves closer the image, the piece grew into a much darker depiction. It shows all these barbie dolls, which to me symbolizes the artificial beauty that is seen in society. The Barbie dolls shows this image of beauty that women should have and aspire to be. I think that this piece speaks to society's sense of conformity. Women, teens and children aspire to look like these Barbie doll figure. There is no originality, no creativity, just the depiction of these blonde hair, blue eyed dolls. It shows that society won't think a woman is beautiful unless they look like one of these artificial Barbie dolls.
I was very amazed on how the artist blended. From the distance the viewer would not be able to see the compilation of Barbie dolls. The size of the image also gave it much dramatic affect. The viewer is able to interact with the image more. We're able to see the individual dolls that makes up this amazing photographs.

I really enjoyed all of Chris Jordan's works. I was amaze at the size and quality of the work. He does an wonderful job blending the images together to make a new image. This piece particular looks more of a painting. All his images seems to have that effect. The only thing is that the message would be a lot clearer if the paper is more noticeable. Even looking up close to it, I couldn't see the image of the paper. Overall, this image is wonderful.
